Boys born underweight more likely to have infertility problems {Taj Pharma} Healthcare Initiative Experts say men have a higher risk of reproduction issues if born below average size Baby boys born small for their gestational age have a greater chance of infertility as adults than those born at an average weight, research suggests. About one in seven heterosexual couples in the UK experience infertility, meaning a year or more of trying for a baby without conceiving, figures show. But while the focus is often on women?s reproductive health, men?s fertility problems are a problem of equal proportion, with both accounting for about a third of known causes of difficulties conceiving. The remaining third are down to unclear causes. Now experts say they have found men have a higher risk of infertility if they were born with a weight in the lowest 10% for their time spent in the womb. ?Our results show that sometimes we must look at the very early life to find explanations of health problems that occur later in life,? said Anne Thorsted, co-author of the research from Aarhus University in Denmark. Writing in the Human Reproduction journal, Thorsted and colleagues reported how they analysed health data […]
{Taj Pharmaceuticals Gynae Products} [Leucorrhoea]: Causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention Leucorrhea is a common condition faced by many women across the world. Though usually it is not a cause for serious concern, it is better to seek treatment to avoid complications. Leucorrhea is a a white, greenish or a slightly yellow discharge from the vagina. Almost all women experience vaginal discharge, which is white and odourless, and this is a natural function of the body to maintain a healthy vagina and flush out harmful micro-organisms. The enforcement by the drug regulator will not be easy given the shortage of drug inspectors – {Taj Pharmaceuticals Generic Drug Division} Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to defeat the doctor-pharmaceutical company nexus and make medicines affordable by making it compulsory to prescribe drugs in the generic name. But, the good intentions may not give the desired results. The enforcement will not be easy given the shortage of drug inspectors. At an industry event at Surat last month, Modi announced plans for a new law to make generic prescriptions mandatory. Parallelly the government is already initiating steps to push for generic prescriptions. In a recent communication to all the states, the Centre has asked states to make sure all physicians write generic names of drugs in a legible manner. Business Standard has reviewed the letter. The government has issued a draft amendment which will make it mandatory for companies to print generic names of the drug in a bolder font than the brand name on the packaging. But, the government will face a difficult task in enforcing its decisions. Food and Drug Administration offices across the country are short staffed. There are 1800 inspectors and more than 25000 pharmaceutical companies […]

Viravecs Labs LLP, Kamat’s Bengaluru-based start-up incubated at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-Camp), is building an array of cell lines with an aim of drastically reducing cost of genetic testing. DNA molecule, computer artwork. DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is composed of two strands twisted into a double helix. DNA contains sections called genes, which encode the body’s genetic information. Genetic testing is emerging as the next big segment in medical diagnostics. Start-ups such as MapmyGenome, Datar Genetics, MedGenome Labs and Strand Life Sciences, a decade-old firm founded by former Indian Institute of Science (IISc) professors, offer services – sequencing the genes of individuals and finding diseases they are genetically prone to. The cost of sequencing a human genome, over 3.2 billion base pairs, has dropped faster than Moore’s law, from $100 million when first done by Craig Venter in 2001, to around $1,000 in 2015, according to the US-based National Genome Research Institute. In India, it costs between Rs […]
According to the report ‘India: the emerging hub for biologics and biosimilars’, the Indian pharmaceutical companies have launched 123 biosimilars and currently have 201 active biosimilars covering multiple indications in the development pipeline The Indian pharmaceutical companies always had strong chemistry skills to work on small molecules to make generic drugs, but they lacked skills, people and ecosystem to work on large molecules to come up with reverse engineered versions of biotech drugs, many experts complain. However, it is beginning to change. According to the report ‘India: the emerging hub for biologics and biosimilars‘, the Indian pharmaceutical companies have launched 123 biosimilars and currently have 201 active biosimilars covering multiple indications in the development pipeline. Further, India has 95 approved biosimilars in the domestic market, more than any other country in the world. The report by global analytics firm Clarivate Analytics was released at the Global Bio-India 2019 event in New Delhi by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, and Health and Family Welfare, Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel and Dr. Renu Swarup, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (DBT). The Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE) estimates the biologics market in […]
